Welcome Back Dakota Trace, or um Livvy the Muse

3744330 - napa valley vineyard sunset on a grunge background.*skips into the room, the slides to a halt*  “Hey, I’ve been here before!”

Of course you have, Livvy.  BL has always been gracious enough to let us visit during our blog hops. *turns to readers*  Hi, I’m Dakota, and that *points at corset wearing dominatrix* …happens to be my muse, Olivia…well, Livvy for short.  She gets a bit peeved when I call her by her namesakes first name.

*arches brow*  “Don’t even get me started on that woman, slave. She should mine her own damned business.”  *grins*  “Maybe I should go and visit Jude and Micah…they need a good shake up, and lord knows that woman needs to be kept on her toes…”

*groans*  No.  Don’t even think about it.  Or I’m not letting you in the club when we revisit Olivia’s for Carlos’s story….*takes a deep breath, ignoring muse’s squeal of protest.  “But we’re not here today to talk about Chicago.  Nope we’re here to talk about Thanksgiving in Napa – a little scavenger hunt I came up with to celebrate the release of my upcoming book, Benevolent Master.

“Yeah, the one I helped her write…which is why it only makes sense that I get my fudge before Alyce gets her pie….”

*shakes head*  Dear lord, not again.  We’ve already discussed this, Livvy. I’ll make your damned fudge AFTER I finish Alyce’s pumpkin pie. *holds out hand*  I almost got all the stuff I need, so cough up the pumpkin, chica….then I’ll think about making your fudge.

*pouts*  “I don’t wanna.”
*rolls eyes*  It’s either the flogger or the pumpkin, your choice.  I can always ask Kaleb or Davis to come in and give me a helping hand. They know exactly how to use a flogger on a woman…

*glares* “You wouldn’t dare!”

*holds out hand* Try me.

“Bitch!”  *But hands over can*pumpkin6

Thank you.  Now the readers can enter pumpkin into the rafflecopter for today’s entry. If they get drawn they will be the lucky winner of a signed set of print books (The Doms of Napa 1-3), that really cool flogger that Livvy’s hording at the moment, and some swag I’ll throw in as a bonus…I’ll be drawing the winner on the 19th and posting it on my  author FB page. *turns to muse*  Want to tell them about the sale?

*crosses arms over chest* “No…”

You know a pouting muse isn’t all that attractive, Livvy.

“I wouldn’t be pouting if you’d make my fudge, slave!”  *stomps off*

*sighs*  Such a drama queen….anyway, about that sale….up until release day, Benevolent Master will be at the low price of $2.99.  That’s almost half off of the original price $4.99.  So if you’re interested…click HERE.

We only have one item left to collect….can you guess what it is?  Well be sure to stop over at J.D. Nelson’s blog tomorrow for that final item.

A special thanks goes out to the lovely BLMorticia for allowing me and Livvy to hijack her blog today….*hugs*

Hugs back. Thanks for stopping in today ladies. Anytime you wanna hijack my place, let me know!

Love is Love!

What is the definition of love? Dictionary dot com says, a profoundly tender affection for another person. A feeling of warm personal attachment for a parent, child, or friend. A person towards whom love is felt.

Those are all correct and nowhere in that sentence does it mention gender, race, or religion. It says person, period which means that anyone can love anybody.aidenlandenseancody10

We’re all brought up with a set of ideals, some which were molded by either our parents, teachers, or some outside force like the church. When this happens, we’re taught that if it’s not one way then it’s wrong or even abnormal. Think about it, what could be abnormal or weird, or wrong about loving someone?

Love is love. Period. Doesn’t matter who that person is, what color, gender, religion, social status. Love is indeed blind, so if someone has ideas that men loving men or women loving women is wrong, then perhaps they should look at what the true meaning for love is.

13043862_sOf course, that only covers significant others or spouses, but what about your friends and family? Look at the movie Frozen and how the character was supposed to break a curse through true love. I’m sure all of us thought it was the female character’s love for a man, but it actually wasn’t. It was bigger than that. More importantly the characters love for her older sibling.

So regardless, in terms of significant others, the differences don’t matter and then when it comes to friends, family, children, it still is love and that could warm a person’s heart.lescouple2

Bottom line, love is love and the other lesson, don’t loosely throw the word around. Get to know who is in your corner and truly has a deep affection and/or appreciation for you as an individual.

OCMy latest book is The Odd Couple under BLMorticia. This book kind of sums up my post. Two men from different backgrounds, opposites in every way, coming together to find true love!

Blurb:

Unlike the popular bank, Chase Whittaker has no money. However, living on the northwest side of Chicago in a rundown building with no car, and no savings hasn’t made him totally undesirable. His good looks and charm make up for everything he seems to lack. Still, it’s not enough to stop his landlord from threatening to sell the building where he owns the store his grandfather opened.

Micah Strickland is the child of famous football player Thomas Strickland and a ghostwriter. Though he’s never hurting for money, He can’t seem to find a man who wants the same things he does. Insecurities about being accepted as a gay and black man also prohibit him from being happy. He does everything to prove he fits in and even after all that, Micah hasn’t found anyone who’s interested in a committed relationship.

When Micah visits Chase’s shop, the sparks fly almost immediately. Chase makes Micah feel special and seems to understand Micah’s battle with wanting to be accepted. But the possible relocation of the bookstore is a dark cloud over their budding romance.

As one issue lends itself to another, Micah finds himself battling what he’s feeling for Chase and loyalties to his father. The question now becomes, will he be able to honor his father without losing the man he’s come to love?

“So we’re starting out this month in the red. We really need to get some sales or we’ll be looking for a new place real soon. Oh, and by the way, the interest on the loan we took out together three months ago is going up because you missed a payment.”

Chase toyed with a pen on his desk. “Did you know Greg called me a slob?”

“No I didn’t, Chase, and this is further proof that you really don’t listen to anything I say.” Jennifer sounded frustrated.

Chase looked up at his partner and best friend, Jennifer Brightman. “I … I do listen, I’m distracted, that’s all. I mean, how would you feel if your man just up and walked out on you without a freaking notice.”

Jennifer rolled her eyes. “I haven’t had a man in like three years, so excuse me for not feeling sympathetic,” she snapped.

“Fuck. Okay, okay.” Chase reached across the mountain of papers on his desk and grabbed Jennifer’s hand. “I’m sorry, Jenn. I really am.” Chase chewed on his bottom lip. “It’s been a long time since I’ve been without a boyfriend.”

Jennifer twisted her lips up to the right. “Chase Whittaker, he just broke up with you a few days ago. You’d been with him for like six months. And by the way, news flash, you are a slob!”

“Am not!” Chase let go of her hand and shifted in his chair, causing a stack of books behind him to tumble to the floor.

“I rest my case.”

“No, no, I … I didn’t have a chance to put these away. These are some good ones a customer dropped off yesterday and I wanted to look them over before I set them on the shelves.” Chase turned to put them back.

“Chase, would you listen to yourself? You’re so busy defending your actions, you don’t see the mess around you. I mean look? Old food boxes on the floor, bills, and junk mail all over what used to be our desk. Unless we have a private conversation, I don’t even come in here anymore. Did you notice I put my own table in the back with the CDs?”

“And I asked you why and you said to have your own space.”

“Yeah, to breathe,” she retorted.

Chase eyed his office and shook his head. “Okay, maybe I am a little messy, but hey I’m a guy.”

“I thought gay guys were supposed to be neat freaks.”

“Well, that’s where you’re wrong, Jenn. Not all gay men are neat and tidy. Anyways, I’m not a slob. Slob means things everywhere and a mess so bad I have bugs, right?”

Jennifer sighed and looked away at her cell phone.

“Right?” Chase waited for the answer.

“The definition of slob means unslovenly or untidy.”

“What? Let me see that!” Chase popped out of his chair and grabbed her phone He glanced at the screen. “Um, I’m not unattractive.”

“No you are not, but your untidy habits make you unattractive. Thank goodness you haven’t let your propensity to keep things as junky as possible get to your appearance! Just clean up your act a little and I’m sure you’ll be able to keep a boyfriend.”

Chase placed Jennifer’s phone on the mountain of papers and sat back in his creaky chair. “Fine, I’ll clean up in here. There are plenty of things I can throw away, believe you me. Still, I don’t get why he up and left. He could’ve helped me with my said problem instead of walking out.”

“Well, perhaps he didn’t want to be your maid,” she answered. “Anyway, back to the books.”

Chase put his hands over his ears. “Nope, no, la la, don’t want to hear it. Don’t you remember our agreement about not talking finances until the fifteenth and the last day of the month? That’s when most of our bills and rent are due.”

“Yeah and today is the fourteenth, the day before—”

“Which means we don’t talk about it until tomorrow,” Chase smiled and placed both hands behind his head. “Now, let’s talk about going out Saturday night. Both of us need a man and there’s this new place in Wicker Park—”

“Chase, please, can we talk about this? I don’t have the money to help you out with this payment. It’s ballooned and it’s a big deal if we don’t pay it back on time this month.”

Chase shrugged and sat up straight, wishing they didn’t have to talk about money. Breakups and bills always killed his mood, but he knew this conversation had to happen so they could keep the doors to Oldie but Goodie open.

“All right, fine. You’re such a killjoy.”

“Yep, that’s me, Jenn the killer of all joy. All the men I dated said the same thing.” She straightened out her papers. “So, again, we need some more funds to get—”

“Uh, sorry, Chase? Can you come up front? There’s this um, old geezer looking for some records. I got no clue what to tell him and he asked to speak with the owner.”

Saved by the kid.

Valentine’s Day Blog Hop hostes by DP Denman

untitled

Welcome to the Valentine’s Day blog hop

While you’re reading this, I’m still away on vacation in New Orleans. I’ve been here since Sunday the 7th and returning Sunday the 14th.

Yeah, yeah, I know, you say why didn’t I stay for an additional day?

Well, Mardi Gras is our annual trip and because it was so early this year, we had to make sure we were back. You know responsibilities, EDJ’s, kids? Yeah, this is Shar talking not BLMorticia.

*grins*

Anyhow, here is one of my favorite topics and since it’s Valentine’s Day weekend, I figured, why not do a little update of Interracial romances?

Hope you enjoy it!

****

UTG2BTI’ve done quite a few posts on interracial romance in books and since the last one I did, I’ve seen a lot of changes. IR seems to be hot at the moment with more people writing them regardless if they are people of color or not. A lot of the storylines are similar, Caucasian billionaire takes a girl straight from the hood and treats her like a queen. Sort of like Pretty Woman but the female MC in there was white and the ladies in our stories aren’t prostitutes. And then there’s also been a small boom in m/m interracial which makes me very happy since I write a lot of interracial gay romance.

However with any boom, especially in the publishing industry, there comes problems. As I’ve mentioned before, the same storylines, the misrepresentation of characters on covers as well as some of the terms and/or dialogue used in stories. Now, I’m not going to gripe here. The more interracial romances there are the better. We need more racial diversity in all genres whether it be romances, sci-fi, horror, children’s books, whatever. The world is not fully one color and the publishing world should reflect that. Still, when we do these romances, we as authors must take into account who reads these stories. Again, not everyone is schooled on how every culture is. We don’t need to be, because again every culture is different. You can’t base characters or settings on what you see on television. Every black person isn’t from a bad neighborhood, they aren’t always poor, and they don’t talk slang. Every Asian isn’t meek or overly suspicious, nor is every Hispanic person a hot head or an illegal alien. While it’s true some minorities fit the so called “mold” not every person of color is the same. Think about it, a lot of people take what they see on TV or read as the truth and when you paint people in a certain light you run the risk of offending them.

Here’s another thing; you’re not going to write the perfect book that doesn’t offend someone because everyone takes things a different way. In my own book Something About Jayden, the person reading found my comments about Caucasian blonde to be troublesome. Not only that, he or she said my character was a racist because he wanted to work for a minority owned company. Even though I didn’t find any issues with this, the reader did and as I stated you run that risk every time you put pen to paper. If I can answer to that without pissing anyone off, I’m a black woman married to a Latino man. I have a biracial child so I know a little bit more about Latino culture than some. A lot of minorities whether they be black, Asian, or Latino want to support their own. That’s not true in every case, but in my character’s life, he felt close to his heritage and wanted to support a minority owned company. I don’t see an issue with bringing that out but again, it’s all how someone takes it.

in my latest book under BL, Under the Gun 2, the Hispanic secondary character offends Camdyn by assuming he’s a racist because he’s from the south. Immediately Camdyn takes offense because he doesn’t want to be painted a certain way. I did that t show it can work both ways. Assumptions aren’t always made towards minorities, they can also go the other way around. It’s my little statement in the book. Perhaps some people are bothered by it or don’t like it, but I showed those flaws in the characters to prove that anyone, regardless of color can make an ignorant and hurtful statement. The character does apologize which I hope will show someone owning up to their mistakes. Books imitate life so I thought it was important to point that out.

So what am I saying here? Be more conscious in writing interracial romance and how you show your characters but don’t let the “unknown” or fear of getting it wrong bother you. Just don’t make assumptions. Write this character the way you want but don’t dumb them down or make them a “lesser” being because of their differences. While some stereotypes are true of some people of color they aren’t the norm. If they aren’t going to be used to advance your plot, you don’t need them.

I hope this post clears up some confusion about interracial romance. Keep writing them and hopefully, multicultural and or interracial won’t be a “fringe” or boom, it will be mainstream.

My Giveaway is for any book from the 3 muses! Please comment on my post and you’ll automatically be entered!

After Malik has successfully completed the tests to be a private investigator, he moves in and makes improvements to the Hardy and Day agency. Though Camdyn isn’t thrilled with the changes, he goes along with them because he loves Malik first and foremost. He only wishes that Malik would tell his parents to get off his back and let him be.

With Hardy and Day PI agency fully operational, Malik and Camdyn get their first case; a millionaire checking out a potential man for his daughter. He wants him followed, everything checked to the letter before he allows them to marry, but just before they deem him squeaky clean, the young man has a secret that could conflict with their work as independent investigators.

Malik and Camdyn have to do what’s right for them as well as they’re clients, but how will they satisfy everyone without compromising their personal beliefs?

“Ah shit!” Camdyn exclaimed, sucking on his injured nail. He wagged it and grimaced in pain, thinking perhaps he should have taken his lover’s advice and hired a professional to fix the hole in the wall and paint. Why would he when he knew how to do things himself?

I am a DIY’er after all!

Recalling the work he’d done on his own home, he shook his hand out and kept sanding the wall to smooth over his mistake. He’d taken out his frustrations on the wall about the last case he’d do without Malik; a cheating husband who somehow avoided his trap in getting caught by his wife. The bastard went to another restaurant instead of the one he’d followed him to a week prior. Mrs. Lawrence wanted to actually see it on camera and she threatened to take her business elsewhere if the Mister wasn’t caught.

Thankfully, she bumped into Malik on the way out and he convinced her with those sparkling good looks and army boy charm, to give Camdyn another chance. He promised – even though he couldn’t officially help until he was licensed – he would make sure Camdyn got the job done exactly to her specifications.

Camdyn grinned to himself, remembering the subtle touches and winks she gave Malik and then the surprised and disgusted look on her face when he said Camdyn was his partner in life, love, and career.

Oops!

Despite this, she still decided to keep her case with Camdyn, just so she could get a look at the hot man up close when she came in for weekly updates. And who could blame her? Those deep chocolate brown eyes complementing his coffee colored skin. The massive muscles in his chest looked amazing in a spandex black t-shirt.

And that ass!

“Whew, dayum baby!”

Just thinking about his new man caused his pants to tighten in the crotch. Still, there was work to be done.

Camdyn finished sanding and was ready to apply the plaster.

“Where’s my hot man anyway?” Perplexed, he jumped down from the ladder and glanced at the screen on his cell. “Almost five? Malik, you should’ve been here almost an hour ago.” Camdyn dialed to ask where he was. It wasn’t that he didn’t trust Malik. Camdyn wondered where his man could be instead of in the office with him.

The incident with Camdyn’s last lover still haunted him and he didn’t want the same to happen with Malik. They were getting along so well, but he still worried about other men trying to take his dreamy lover away.

Never had Camdyn been so insecure in a relationship until now.

Ah well, first time for everything.

While pushing number one to dial Malik’s number, Camdyn ran his fingers through his hair. His eyes darted around the room, checking out the changes he’d made to the office to suit his lover. Malik desired more of a modern feel for the office since they’d be working on a lot more cases. Camdyn’s main concern was how much easier they could play and make love on downtime.

“I will take that as a compliment.”

“Good. It was meant as one.”

An awkward quietness filled the air which Baz ended when he suddenly asked, “So, where you off to then?”

Rex felt uneasy, he couldn’t tell him the truth, of course, so he fabricated it. In the beginning he didn’t care about what he told Baz. That had changed now, he didn’t like lying to him. “I’m meeting up with a friend to talk business.”

Baz nodded, not wanting to appear as if he was prying. Ten minutes later security rang to let them know a taxi was waiting. As Baz walked out of the front door Rex grabbed him from behind and whispered in his ear. “I hope this is okay? I was hoping it would look like only you were leaving.”

Baz gasped at the feel of their joined bodies. Rex’s strong grip and hard body against his own made his come alive. He managed to stutter out, “Bend down a bit more and move in closer. I will side step to the taxi. Do you think you can keep up?”

Rex chuckled in his ear. “Are you flirting with me, Preppy?”

This caused an instant rise to his cock, and he whispered back. “Would it bother you if I was?”

The breath he felt fan out across the back of his neck had his hairs standing at attention, along with another part of his body. “Not in the least.”

Rex’s answer had Baz’s cock rock hard within seconds. The taxi horn made him jump, and he felt Rex do the same.

Rex needed to keep some distance from Baz’s lower half as it would clue him in to how turned on he was right now. When they reached the taxi he slipped in hoping they weren’t being watched. He was mentally kicking himself as he lowered his body down in the seat, so as not to be seen. How stupid can he be? He was outright flirting and enjoyed it. Baz felt amazing in his arms. He was shocked how he kept his hands in only one place. They twitched to explore the warm body that set his ablaze. He still had a hard-on now. This was killing him. And in that moment, in a taxi taking him to a seedy hotel so he could fuck another man, he finally admitted to himself that he wanted Baz.

BIO:

Sammie J loves to read and, through her own dreams, her stories have started to take form. She finally decided to write things down when her dreams kept repeating every night, and she hasn’t stopped since. She finds time to write while also being a stay at home mum to four children, who love to help her choose names for her characters. Her biggest supporter is her husband, who will stay up and talk to her into the early morning hours about her stories, and he isn’t shy about giving her criticism.
Sammie J likes to think she has a wicked sense of humor and she hopes it comes through in her books to her readers. If she can make you laugh, then her job is done and she feels complete.
